Project: NCB, Participation Works
About
Participation Works consists of six leading organisations involved in Children & Young People's participation, overseen by the Carnegie UK Trust. They provide an online gateway to resources such as policy, practitioner networks, innovative ideas and research evidence, good practice examples and training.
Brief
The website was required to act as a portal to relevant PW content, associated institutions and resources. The site also needed to operate within a content management system which allowed the client dynamic page creation and indexing, as well as rich text editing. Finally there was a requirement to interface with a third party web application which provided advanced search functionality for resources.
Solution
An open source content management system (Dot Net Nuke) was used as a framework for the site, with bespoke components being built to accommodate the design. The open source aspect provides the possibility of low-cost future functional development for the site.
The website was planned and structured as an access point to content for a wide range of visitor types. A search facility was provided in the form of a 'Knowledge Hub', allowing educators, policy makers and research professionals open access to a wealth of information.
A simple typographic logo was created to show the process of networking, teamwork and participation for the PW branding. Carefully researched photography helped communicate the idea of participation between children and young people, enhanced with a simple Flash presentation.
